Nereo Kalebic
Human Technopole
Biography
Nereo Kalebic is a Senior Research Group Leader at Human Technopole in Milan, Italy. He obtained his degree in Molecular Biology at the University of Zagreb in Croatia in 2007 and his PhD in Molecular Biology at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and the University of Heidelberg in 2012.
From 2013 to 2019, he carried out postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden, studying the development and evolution of the human neocortex.
The Kalebic lab aims to uncover the cellular principles that generate human brain complexity and to understand how these principles are disrupted in disease. By integrating cell biology, genomics and computational approaches across complementary model systems, including patient-derived organoids and cell lines, and mouse models, the lab generates mechanistic insight into brain complexity and unmet clinical challenges in neurodevelopmental disorders and brain tumors.
