Nuria Lopez Bigas

Biography
Nuria Lopez-Bigas is an ICREA Research Professor at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine in Barcelona. Her lab combines strong expertise in biology and bioinformatics, and it is focused on the study of cancer. They have made major contributions in the identification of cancer genes and cancer driver mutations across tumor types and in understanding the mutational processes leading to the accumulation of mutations in cells.
Nuria Lopez-Bigas was elected member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) in 2016, Fellow of the International Society of Computational Biology (ISCB) in 2021, and member of the Spanish Royal Society of Sciences in 2024. In 2025 she received the Jaume I Award in Biomedical Research. She currently leads the European project CGI-Clinics (cgiclinics.eu), which joins cancer hospitals across Europe to develop and implement a data-driven cancer genome interpretation for clinical decision making. She co-leads the Cancer Grand Challenge project PROMINENT (https://www.cancergrandchallenges.org/prominent).
